1986 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ45

by AJ Deysel

Few names are as know in the offroad and overlanding fraternity as Land Cruiser, for capability, dependability, reliability and style. A Japanese manufactured vehicle, but almost American Icon, the Toyota Land Cruiser 40 series is immediately recognizable and loved by most. Now is your chance to own a 1986 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ45 long-bed pickup, which is becoming quite rare, and this one is in a awesome color to match. This suave old pickup, will be equally at home outside the trendiest city restaurants, as it will be out on the toughest trails, and although not fast, the original 2F 4.2 liter straight-six gasoline engine has enough power for both the toughest off-road tracks, and daily city/highway mixed commute. This one also comes with an air-conditioner and power-steering for added in-cabin comfort.

Although many feel that a pristine classic such as this should be left all original, we have always been of the opinion that a few improving upgrades, are always a bonus especially if they still suit the original purpose and design of the vehicle, but simply enhancing it’s everyday driveability and comfort. More often than not, beck when it was bought new, the original owners would also have preferred some improvements like power-steering, air-condition and a softer riding, better performing suspension system. Luckily this one already includes the first two, but for the latter, we would recommend none other than a venerable Old Man Emu suspension kit, just to improve it ever so slightly.
